Sister North & Sister South, Kayabwe, Uganda
When I did my big trip around the equator I made a point of visiting any equator monument I could find.
This one was beside the road in Kayabwe, just south of Kampala.
I got the driver of the matatu I’d caught to drop me off, figuring I’d just wave down another when it was time for me to go.
Luck – or the Lord – was on my side that day. Two nuns stopped to visit the monument as well.
They happily posed for photos within the white concrete ring and when I was all done, gave me a lift back to Kampala.
God bless you, Sister North and Sister South!
UPDATE
My friend, Samir Dave, was in Kayabwe recently and says that the sign has been updated and there is a cafe right behind it that boasts about straddling both hemispheres at once.
Sadly, there was no sign of the sisters.
