10 days in the Mekong Delta on a 1964 Vespa

Me and chopsticks Back in 2004 I was asked to write a story for a travel anthology called Come Away with Me. It was just after Vroom with a View was published so I decided to rock up to Ho Chi Minh City and see if it was possible to find an old Vespa and rattle around the countryside in Vietnam too.

The result is this short e-Book - a search for la dolce vita with a distinctly South East Asian flavour!

And the story behind them ...

I came across this guy and his 'passenger' on a bridge just outside Chau Doc. I was on my way back from the Cambodian border.

There are lots of things I love about this photo. The cigarette hanging out of the guy's mouth. The nonchalant way the cow is watching the world go by. The fact that such a contraption exists.

For a while it qualified as the weirdest thing I'd seen involving a motorbike in Vietnam. Then I spotted a dog sitting on the back of one with his front paws wrapped around the guy driving in HCMC.
