Are you and the GND still together?
Boy, I wish I had a dollar for every time I was asked this question!
Well, we lived together for six months after coming back, but unfortunately she discovered that what she thought were my travelling idiosyncrasies were in fact full-blown personality disorders.
Hence she is now the Girl A Couple Of Suburbs Away.
When did you do the trip?
We arrived in Mexico in November 1998, about the same time as Hurricane Mitch. We got to Jamaica just in time for the 2nd Test between Australia and the West Indies (funny that!) before finishing back in Mexico City at the end of April 1999.
Which was your favourite country?
I absolutely loved Cuba. What a place! Great people, great music, great atmosphere. Get there before it gets spoiled.

What did the GND think of the book?
She read it as I wrote it so I guess she was OK with it. I certainly haven’t had any nasty letters from solicitors to make me think otherwise.

Just finished the full Montezuma. Trying to look at promised heaps of pictures- can’t find them jet on this site. Thinking of visiting Cuba but maybe I shouldn’t if I even get lost on here….

Loved it-did a similar trip last year and wished i could write the trip up like you did.
Just finished it…while waiting for child no 4 to make an appearance 9due tomorrow) Been 2 most of the places mentioned (when I was young free and single) on various trips between 1994-2000 and was like a trip down memory lane. Fantastic. Im now listening to buenavista and can almost feel the sand in my toes!!! Probably the closest Ill get to the caribbean til the kids are in Uni!! thanks for bringing it all back
