Any hot tips for a cold Stockholm?

I’m off to Stockholm for a week tomorrow in an attempt to whittle down my savings as quickly as possible. I was wondering if you guys had any tips on what to see and do there. I’m interviewing Jens Lekman on Tuesday but apart from that my time’s my own.

The Vasa museum is apparently amazing. Birka is pretty amazing: a ridiculous number of neolithic tombs, though it all being outdoors might be a bit chilly this time of year (I was there last Summer).

Again it’s outdoors so possibly not so useful, but the archipelago is where it’s all at! See if you can find somewhere for a sauna out on the islands then run from sauna into the Baltic…

Drotningham wasn’t really that interesting as European castles go, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

I hear they have a rather fascinating Syndrome.

The Riddarholmskyrkan is somewhere in the center of the Old town. Neat because most monarchs built a chapel onto the existing structure, so consequently there is a hodge-podge of styles.

Probably a bit late now for any kind of suggestions, but anyway… Yes The Vasa (or Wasa?) it pretty cool, they basically built a whole building around the boat, and it is quite impressive. And the old town is really cute, there’s a great kebab place around there, although I have no idea where it’s located exacltly. If you want to do a day trip though, you can go to Vasteros, along the lake of the same name. Highlights: the lake, a big Church, and most importantly you can take the glass elevator up and down on the tallest building in town (something like 7 floors, it had to be smaller than the Church’s height), admire the view of the town, and then have a big mac at the bottom (surely one of the cheapest options in town). Also great, though I guess it’s also possible in Stockholm, is to watch the drunken masses of people holding each other to walk and throwing up on the streets, circa 11pm on a Friday or Saturday night – sort of a sociological study event, fascinating.
I wasn’t there for very long, so that’s going to be the amount of my contribution here. Have fun!
