The Perfect Christmas Gift

Good news for every Hungarian mother struggling to find the perfect gift for their son or daughter this Christmas. No Shitting in the Toilet is getting released in Hungarian!

In case you’re wondering, that’s the cover to your right. It was just sent to me by Atilla Strausz, my publisher in Hungary. He helpfully pointed out that Tilos! means ‘forbidden’ in Hungarian, not toilet as I might have thought. I was rather hoping that he’d tell which word was Hungarian for ‘shitting’ so I could add it to my repetoire of international swear words. I’m guessing it’s either vécébe or szarni.

Anyone know for sure?

    Hungarian word for shit

    Noun szar
    Verb szarik

Onlline translation dictionaries prove very useful!

  2. Julie Perkins Says:

online dictionary does not work for shitting unfortunately.

You really can’t see the WC in “vécébe”? Oh well. For your repertoire, “szar!” will be a very nice “shit!” to insert at various points in your conversations on your book signing tour to Budapest. #8D)

Should you also need a “sucker”, “balfasz” will do nicely.

    Good luck with that!

Thanks Bjorn – it’s clear now that you pointed it out. Further proof that I have no natural skills with foreign languages!

Just reading this book now (the english one), after borrowing it from the library (sorry Pete, but funds are low). The Olympic Airways Sydney – Athens comments brought a nostalgic tear to my eye, as I remember 6 years ago flying in the opposite direction… pressing that “attendant” button for a good half hour for a scotch & coke.
oh well, at least the food was decent enough!

A top read indeed! Looking forward to your next book
    Pete
