Finally, 100 countries!

Luxembourg goodiesAfter sitting on 99 countries for what seems an eternity I finally clicked over to my 100th country visited. (Not that I’m counting or anything.)

I had been hoping to knock it off with Kurdish Iraq last April but a certain Icelandic volcano put paid to that. And I was supposed to be going to Algiers in September but it looks like I’ll be doing a literature festival in Nairobi.

So when The Adventurists asked me to hitch a ride with one of the Mongol Rally teams to Prague I decided to bite the bullet and ask my team, Genghis Carnage, to take a detour to the one country in Western Europe I hadn’t visited.

Luxembourg.

Yep, I decided if I couldn’t go hardcore I’d go lame.

I’m celebrating right now at the Urban Bar in down town Lux. Cool place. They’re playing Happy Mondays and the wifi is free. Oh, this beer is pretty good too.

Anyway, better go. Got the sights of Luxembourg to see before heading east to Germany and the Czech republic. In the back of a Suzuki Alto.

I can’t believe that I visited Luxembourg years ago, albeit on a lame Christmas Market coach trip. I thought you had been everywhere I had been and more besides!!

I’d be interested to know what your 76th country was? Mine was Turkmenistan – one of the strangest countries I’ve ever been to, but up in the top 5 of places visited.

And if I recall correctly, were you once going to do a trip traversing all the old former Soviet nations? That is one book I’d love you to do, that is if you can negotiate the visa hell that it would undoubtedly involve. Is that an abandoned project or is it still on the cards?

    Kindest regards,

    Jason
