Anyone been watching the new travel series, An Idiot Abroad?

Basically Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant sent their sidekick Karl Pilkington off around the world with the intention of putting him in as many uncomfortable and off-putting situations as possible.

I finally caught an episode last week – the one set in Mexico – and I’ve got to say I really enjoyed it. Karl’s take on things is funny and surprisingly insightful. And I was pleased that he came away liking Mexico. (I’d feared that he’d be one of those ‘Little Englanders’, to quote Stephen Merchant, that hated everything ‘foreign’ on principle.) He even admitted that he’d like to live there. For a while.
