The random media appearances continue. After my triumphant appearance in the Pontefract & Castleford Express, I’m running the risk of overexposure by being interviewed in the latest issue of TNT and popping up fleetingly in the Somerset episode of new Hairy Biker’s TV series – Food Tour of Britain.
In TNT magazine I discuss the only place I’ve ever feared for my life and my disappointment at never being given a nickname at school. (I mean, P Moore? Guys, surely you could have done something with that!)
I tried to give a call out to Kylie Phaup-Stephens, a kiwi reader of mine currently cycling overland to NZ – even spelling out her name to the interviewer – but it got shortened to ‘ a girl’. You can get a jpeg of the interview here. And see how Kylie’s getting on here.
As for my appearance on Hairy Bikers, well it was at a wasail at Somerset and it was momentary and unremarkable. I’d been taken along by Paul Gentle as part of my ‘research’ for Blimey! and after a few too many ciders we tried to get in as many shots as possible. (My nephew Harrison in Oz calls it ‘boneheading’, a term I love and plan to use more.)
Watching the episode of iPlayer the other night, it seems that the HB’s editor was able to exorcise us from most shots. But he had one momentary lapse of concentration.
I’ve circled it below.
At least the girl signing the show thought I was funny.

This is where you'll find everything you need to know about me and my books.
You got off litely. I had that many connotations of my last name, they even named a suburb after me. Apparently I have a affiliation with hills?? Once again cheers mate, hope you enjoyed the beers.
Not too lightly! I seem to remember getting a bloodied nose on Glenfield station for using your nickname a little too freely!
Beers were good, mate. Treated myself to a six pack of Innis & Gunn. Cheers!
Great article and I will be sure to follow your travels Peter. You have my dream job – travelling the world, taking photographs and writing about your experiences.
Right now I am an out of work IT guy. Sounds boring doesn’t it! Hoping I can catch a break and take some more exotic trips one of these days…
Great articles. Your nephew is a genius, boneheading is a great word!
I met Kylie in the mountains in Central Turkey in August this year. It’s great that you try to help her get more publicity. She’ll need a lot of it to be allowed to slip into Tibet in a while. Anyway, if your daughter grows up to come anywhere near Kylie in mental strength and positive attitude, you should be a very proud father!
I agree that independent travel pretty much anywhere can still be done by girls as well, but that kind of adventure isn’t really for everyone. Gene-wise she should be okay, though. #8D)
I would have thought P Moore would be more relevant as a nickname now as all the old boys of HAHS close in on the big 50 my friend
… Your contact Peter webmail server bounced my private email back to me earlier today by the way… Keen to catch up so drop me a line when you can…
