Just had a great weekend ‘oop north, taking in a game of rugby league, eating a pie in Wigan and wandering along the most impressive parts of Hadrian’s Wall. The only blemish was the trip back. The Virgin Pendalo was an hour late. And my carriage was full of braying upper-class twits returning from a wedding in the Scottish Borders.
The Northerners I met, however, couldn’t have been friendlier. And generous too. Derek, the old boy I met on the terraces at the league match, gave me his Saints cap at the end of the match. Joanne showed me around Wigan and then slipped me a tin of Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls as I left. And Andrew, my guide to the best bits of Hadrian’s Wall, handed me a Philips Weather Clock Radio.
The Weather Clock Radio comes in two parts. The clock radio bit. And a weather-proof box that transmits information back from your garden.
Andrew’s family company, Dutch West, distribute Philips stuff throughout the UK. And While Andrew didn’t say it, I suspect the Weather Clock Radio could be one of their most popular items.
I mean, a clock and a radio that also tells you the weather in your garden? And then displays on a screen what the weather is going to do over the rest of the day?
That’s very British.
Very, very British.
This is where you'll find everything you need to know about me and my books.
Glad to help when you were over here Peter – hopefully Gids gave you some good stuff.
All the best, and when you’re next over, look me up.

Haha! That Philips Weather Clock Radio would be obsolete here on the Sunshine Coast of Australia though but indispensable in the UK. Score!

Wishing you much success with ‘Blimey’
