My family holiday in Mallorca was the same as some of my other trips in one respect. I ended up on an unintentional quest.
This time it was getting a photo of one of the bright yellow Vespa PX 125′s used by postman to deliver mail.
I spotted my first one on our first morning in Porto Pollensa. It buzzed past us as we were walking along the sea front but before I could get my camera out it was gone.
I saw it again as we waited for the bus to Pollensa but, again, it has zoomed around the roundabout and down a side street before my camera bag was unzipped.
In Palma the post people there use Piaggio Libertys. But I did spot one battered PX parked outside a suburban post office but I couldn’t justify getting off the bus specifically to take a photo of it to Sally.
In the end I gave up.
Then, on the morning of our last day in Mallorca, fate smiled upon me. We were coming down the stairs out of a supermarket when I spotted one parked on the footpath. I bolted, jumping four steps at a time, convinced that the postie riding it would jump on and ride away before I got my shot.
Daisy didn’t know what was happening – of course – and bolted after me thinking that she needed to run as well. Sally guessed what was happening and ambled up a minute later shaking her head.
And I wonder why she calls me a Ves-bore.

This is where you'll find everything you need to know about me and my books.
Hi Peter,
I’m just near the end of reading The Full Montezuma and thought I’d check your website out. This blog reminded me of my very recent holiday in Honduras, where my boyfriend and I were in Copan, and saw buzzing round of all things, a police tuk tuk, painted up like a cop car, with a flashing light on top.. You don’t seem to mention anything of them in your book so I’m presuming they’re a newish thing there, but what a mad way for police to get around.. Imagine being arrested and carted away in one of those!! Almost worth starting a fight for.. Mad what some culture’s travel about in (or on).
Anyway, fate did not smile upon us as we only had one photo opportunity and did’nt get to the camera quick enough which I was disappointed about. I was even willing to give them a few lemps to get one but never got another chance. Can’t even find a pic on the web, unless I’m not searching right.
Hope your enjoying your trip round good old blighty, and at least your making the effort to see something of the country like us Brits usually don’t, unless it’s a weekend away to get hammered! I think generally we look forward to slaving away all year to escape the UK for a fortnight or so.
Not got too far down your blog yet but hope you make the North East – it’s definately the best place in Britain, but then I’m biased..
I look forward to reading the rest of your books. Already ordered the next one..
Best wishes.
Gill. :0)
