Family Holidays vs. 'Work' holidays

Well, I’m back in the UK. Missed the heatwave – and probably the summer – but enjoyed equally toasty weather out in Mallorca. Didn’t get up to much. Just swimming a lot with my daughter. But that’s the point of family holidays, isn’t it?

I’ve come to this family holiday caper late in life so I’m still trying to figure out what’s involved. Sure there were plenty of family holidays when I was a kid. Mostly up at South West Rocks. But when I started travelling as an adult all my trips were more adventures than holidays.

I guess that’s why I felt a little guilty getting on the plane home. I’d just spent ten days in a pool or at a beach. In Porto Pollensa. There was an afternoon in the little town of Pollensa. And a day wandering around Palma. But that’s it.

The only time I felt like I’d scratched beneath the surface was tucking into a dish of traditional Mallorcan Suckling Pig at the Celler Sa Premsa in Palma. But even then I was surrounded by heaps of tourists having their only ‘authentic’ Balearic experience as well.

I’m not complaining. I feel relaxed and rejuvenated and ready to finish off Blimey.

I’m just itching for a bit of an adventure.

I’ve got to have the manuscript in by the end of September.

So maybe then.

Welcome back to Blighty. I spent the heatwave in Shetland, which was pretty unbearably hot even there so I can’t imagine how hot it would have been for you in the Med! Glad you had a nice relaxing time, and good luck with the Blimey writing.

Good luck with the finishing touches Peter, nice photo there too. Enjoy the rest of the summer although I think you might’ve missed it! Hope Australia’s imminent Ashes humiliation won’t provide too much of a distraction to the job in hand though…

Campervan trip is a good compromise. You can explore, ad-lib, watever; while still having the security of a roof and decent meal.

    Hi there.
Could you tell me where can I find this inflateable dog ?
    Thanks

Not sure where you’d buy it – it was in the pool in our hotel in Mallorca.
