A weekend in Cardiff

The RummerThis weekend the Blimey road trip comes to Cardiff.

I’ve got to say I’ve been looking forward to visiting to Cardiff for a while. Everyone I have spoken to who has been or lived there raves about it.

Saturday arvo I’m going to the Six Nations match between Wales and England, getting in a few jars beforehand. Apparently watching the boys from the valleys getting steamed in the pubs around the ground is as entertaining as the match itself.

It’s not all fun and games though. On Friday I’m working in The Rummer for a few hours. It got its license back in 1713 – 50 odd years before Captain Cook rocked up at Botany Bay – and is one of Cardiff’s oldest pubs.

The old cliche is that every Aussie who comes to the UK ends up working behind a bar. I never have. And I love my cliches. So it had to be done.

If you find yourself in central Cardiff between 4pm and 7pm pop by and I’ll attempt to get your order wrong and keep your change.

That’s the rugby and drinking sorted. Anything else I need to consider?

You’re lucky to get a ticket, they were like hen’s teeth apparently.

It’s been a good game so far and the atmosphere is cracking over the telly. And I am experiencing a kind of Schadenfreude over the Poms’ performance so far!!
