A quiet Guinness at the Crown

Peter sipping on a GuinnessIt’s a wet night in Belfast and I’ve found myself with a cost little snug to myself in The Crown.

The Crown Is an amazing Victorian boozer that has been restored by the National Trust.

I’m nursing a Guinness as I write this and wondering how the amazing painted and cut glass windows weren’t blown out any of the 32 times the Hotel Europa was bombed across the road.

Excellent, glad you’ve made it to Belfast! I really liked it on the couple of times I visited. A real earthy charm to it, and lovely people. Much like The Crown in particular – what a beautiful place.

I hope you are able to make it to Derry – a strange but compelling place, with the sort of edgy feeling and topography that reminded me of Jerusalem!

    Safe travels.

Nothing like a pint anywhere. Looking forward to ringing the bells with you in Hungerford sometime soon. Although having seen on the news recently and spoken to some people at work who have taken the test, it might be worth you reading the book on the train because it’s full of pointless questions even us Brits don’t know the answer to or see the use for!

    Hi Peter,
I stayed in the Europa Hotel roughly two months before your visit to the bar.
I was amazed it was such a charming, quiet but exciting city at the same time.
You should also try to make it to Derry sometime, I’ve been there three times but I feel I can’t get enough of it.

    Take care,
