Going Around in Circles

The first big trip I ever did was back in 1991 when I travelled around the equator. I wrote a book about it too, but back then nobody was interested in travel.

I filmed a lot of stuff too. I was young and naive and figured I could make a TV series. I didn’t have a clue! The result is a manuscript gathering dust and a box full of SuperVHS tapes.

With the advent of YouTube etc I’ve been toying with the idea of doing something with it all. Yesterday I sat down and mucked around with some of the footage shot in Siberut, one of the Mentawi Islands. You’ll find it below.

I’m interested to hear what you think. But before you say anything, I already know I shouldn’t wear a loincloth!

Given you write such a lot in your blog and books about music, it’s great to see your stories being told in a new medium. I’m looking forward to seeing more!

    Get a haircut hippie.

And put some more of that stuff on YouTube.

This is weird and completely unecessary, like the guy about a minute in to this clip…

Waht happened to that book? Can we read it?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! Oh, I’m sorry, you already know the loincloth is funny.

This clip makes travelling look like so much fun.

Not sure about the music at first, but after a minute or so it seems somehow apt. Especially when it gets to the old guys dancing. There’s some great footage here. When’s the next video coming out?

Hey guys, thanks for the comments.

Re: The book. Let’s just say there are stirrings on that front. More news soon.

Re: The next video. When I get another spare four hours I’ll slap something together and put it up.

Re: Uncle Hunty. Is it wrong that I laughed out loud at the plastic cup gag?

The plastic cup gag was murder to film, we kept cracking up. My take on the other hand was done in one, mostly because I knew we only had cans of Fosters and I didn’t want to drink it twice.

My appearance as Princess Leia in Star Awards is worth a look, you won’t see Carrie Fisher in the same light again.

1991 was such a good year for hair (or at least we thought so at the time).

Footage obviously piss funny. Would love to see more – and in context: the beginning, the ‘muddle’, the end.

And I’m sure we’ll get to read the dusty manuscript. Talking of which, what ever happened to Crikey?
