Global Incident Map

Global Incident MapIt’s less than a week before I fly to Sydney and I’ve got so much to do. I’m busily rebuilding the web site using templates created for me by the guys at e-CBD. (Some of you got a sneak peek earlier this week when I was testing it with the blog). I’m putting together a Powerpoint slideshow for the talk at Malt Cafe in Melbourne … knocking up some book proposals to run by my publishers while I’m in Oz … and trying to catch up with my English friends for a few pre-pre-Christmas drinks.

I’m so busy that I took the easy option and let the guys at Halfords put together the Pingu bike we got Daisy for Christmas. I’m a bit of a freak when it comes to assembling flatpack furniture and toys. I find it relaxing. And I get an overblown sense of achievement at the end of it. (Until the said item falls apart – then my zen-like calm disappears.) I did get to stick the streamers in the handles and attached the bell though.

Anyway, the last thing I needed was to find this Global Incident Map showing every insurrection, bombing, shooting, rail crash AS IT HAPPENS. I discovered it via John Birmingham’s blog and it’s addictive.

Over the course of the day the Italians arrested 20 terror suspects, an airliner got bombed on the runway in Algeria, the FBI warned of terror attacks on shopping malls, and some Kiwi threw a pipe bomb at a police station on Auckland’s north shore.

I wonder what will happen today?

Fascinating website – scary, though, to think how many incidents are happening at any given time. And of course this won’t be the full global picture either.

Safe travels back down under and good luck with the events.

Yeah I noticed your talk up in the window at Gleebooks. Beers afterwards?

That’s the plan. More details soon here on the blog.
