Bar Civili is a Times Gin Joint

I don’t write much stuff for newspapers. I came to writing through advertising, so I don’t have a network of former colleagues and editors needed to to sustain a freelance career. Also, you’ve got to adjust your writing style to suit the publication which isn’t always fun. When you write a book you can at least be yourself.

Anyway, this piece is about 85% as I intended it. They lopped a paragraph where I presented the bar man with a Nottingham Forest pennant and he asked if they were anyway connected with Forest Gump. Derby fans would have loved it. But I guess they’re not considered within the Times’ demographic!
