The film rights to Vroom with a View have just been re-optioned for another year.
In the first 12 months of being optioned the guy who bought the rights has spoken to Tom Cruise’s people, toyed with the idea of Ewan McGregor playing the part of me and attached Aussie director Michael Rymer to the project.
Michael directed Queen of the Damned and any number of episodes of Battlestar Galactica. It’s quite a jump from Vampires to Vespas but he’s an Aussie so he at least ‘gets it’.
Having him ‘attached’ will help things move to the next level. It could all start happening soon.
And I used to think that the cogs moved slowly in the publishing industry.

Hey wow, congratulations!!
Did I mention that I met one of your people the other day over here in Belgium.
I didn’t hear him properly and said, ‘Is that a New Zealand accent?’
He smiled, that big smile that Australians smile just before they take the complete piss out of a kiwi and said, ‘No! I say apple not epple.’
My Belgian bloke almost died laughing … he’s been telling everyone.
Yep, tis my lot in life, the Brits, Americans and now the Aussies are mocking my accent.
Congrats Peter. Great news, who would you like to play the role of you though? and who for Sally?
That’s a tricky one, Stuart.
I think the idea is to change the story so that Sally is a local that I hook up with – so maybe someone dark and feisty like Penelope Cruz!
As for me, I think my character is more put upon (hence the thought of Ewan Macgregor when he plays more dorky characters.) Heath Ledger, maybe. Jack Black?!? I don’t know.
Anyone else out there got any ideas?
Hey Di,
I don’t know what it is about that smile. I think it’s genetic ‘cos I do it too. Maybe it’s to let the person know that the piss taking is being done affectionately.
On another note, the All Blacks are looking good at the moment. I v. impressed with them against Wales. Trouble is they always look good about a year out from the World Cup and then stumble. I hope for the rest of us that’s the case (he says with a big smile.)
The RL was a good game too.
You’re not serious? Are you ……….?
This is BIG BIG news … if you’re ‘not spinning a yarn’ then congratulations mate. This is fabulous news.
Millie x
Hi Millie,
I’m not spinning a yarn. But Vroom: The Movie is still a long way from the multiplexes. A script has to be written, actors attached etc before it can be regarded as a ‘go’ picture. All of which could take years and still amount to nothing.
In the meantime, though, I get a nice little retainer each year …
Please, please, please make sure those scriptwriters retain that laid back style and laconic humour you do so well! Throw in a couple of your Aussie “piss-takes” and you’ll be on a winner.
How about David Wenham playing you?
Good luck and congrats on the recognition of a good story!
