Better to be robbed than flogged

The Aussies were cruelly knocked out of the World Cup yesterday by a dubious last-second penalty. To be fair to the Italians, they’d been playing for most of the second half one man down and we couldn’t put them away. Well done to the Azzuri.

I was happy that the Socceroos had put up a good fight. My worst fear was that once we got to this stage of the competition we’d get flogged. Instead we were robbed. As my English friend Steve said, morally, our name’s on the cup until next time.

Spare a thought for Nike Town on Oxford Street though. I popped in yesterday hoping to pick up a last minute Socceroos shirt and they’d sold out. The Socceroos shirt has been their best-selling item this World Cup and more were due to arrive today.

At the time I thought Nike might have known something the rest of us didn’t.

I was wrong.

    Pete,
you were robbed!!! I hate it when players ‘throw’ themselves to the ground!

By the way, I have just returned from New York and am pleased to say that I saw your book on the shelves of every bookstore I popped in to (multi copies – not just singles!)

    G’day Matey,
    Maybe this might explain things.
