I was supposed to be riding through Manhattan with the NYC Scooter Club tonight. I was really looking forward to it as well. But around 3 p.m. the word went out. I was being summonsed to meet Mario Batali.
Mario Batali is the US equivalent of Gordon Ramsey and Jamie Oliver. When he says he’d like to catch up you drop everything and get down to his restaurant. According to my New Yorker friends it’s like getting to meet the Pope. I hadn’t realised that getting a quote for my book from him was such a big deal.
Turns out he’s a really nice guy. Down-to-earth. Friendly. And the proud owner of a vintage-green Vespa GT.
He’s a pretty good cook as well.
