A hug from a fan

Now that the Book Expo is over I feel I can admit that not everything went to plan. I tried to get a photo of the Apron Lady but I couldn’t find her again. I wandered up and down the aisles, quizzed other delegates – even called out her name – but all to no avail. I know how much some of you wanted to see a photo of this amazing woman. All I can do is apologise.

My event out at DC Vespa went much better. Ginger, Gerry and Kevin put on a BBQ and DC stepped up with the sunshine. I signed a few books, ate a couple of cheeseburgers and chatted with a bunch of cool scooterists. I got a hug from a fan.

I’ve never been hugged by a fan before. It was kind of nice. Shaila had come across my book Swahili for the Broken-Hearted while she was in Africa and I guess she wanted to show her appreciation.

She told my publisher that she had just walked three miles to get to the event so maybe she was just hanging on for support.

Did Shaila have to walk back the three miles or did she get a lift on a scooter?!

I think she got a bus back

    Peter,

I hope your book tour brings you to the Twin Cities at some point. I’m looking forward to reading Vroom with a View!

    Shaila’s friend in Minneapolis,

    Eissa

It looks like the Eastern European countries are lagging in the ‘Cab Driver Nationality Census’ !
