I popped over to Livorno on the weekend to attend the wedding of my good friend Filippo. Readers of Vroom with a View might remember him as The Waspmaster, the guy who pointed me towards the Vespa I eventually bought on eBay. Along with Marco, he also showed me around Livorno when I rolled into town. It’s largely thanks to those guys that I developed a taste for ponce.
Well, the Waspmaster has settled down now. He married the lovely Valeriya in a glittering ceremony in the sala grande of the Livorno town hall. It was the first Italian wedding I have been to and the ceremony seemed to be over in record time. The same can’t be said of the meal at the reception though – the courses just kept on coming! I think I’d already put on a couple of kilos by the time the pasta dishes were finished.
Anyway, I’m sure you’ll all join me in wishing Filippo and Valeriya all the best. I just hope she continues to let him come down to Bar Civili whenever I’m in town.

Hi – Just a short note from a 35 yr old father-of-one (2nd on the way). I read your book in late spring this year and was inspired to get on two wheels…..without my wife knowing I took the test in the UK and passed late May. Sadly my frame and build doesn’t suit a Vespa
nevertheless I’d like to thank you for inspiring me on to 2 wheels….

Dean,
I’m not the Waspmaster, but did buy one of his vintage scoots years ago on eBay- a 1972 Vespa 50 Special. What do you mean about your “frame and build” not suiting a Vespa? Are you too large? Too smaill? Might I suggest a large frame Vespa if you are tall and heavy? There are new Vespas that suit a large man quite well- and powerful engines to boot. Vespa now has a 250cc and, I think even a 300cc? Scooters are the most fun on two wheels you’ll ever have!
