Sorry for being a bit slack on the blogging lately but I’ve just travelled halfway around the world back to Australia. I know it’s not that much of a hardship – especially on Singapore Airlines – but when you’re a procrastinator like me any old excuse will do.
Speaking of hardship, I’m writing this as I look over the harbour at Woolloomooloo. It’s still early so the morning air is a bit crisp and the only sign of life is in the botanical gardens – joggers on the ground and fruit bats returning to hang upside down in the trees for the day. I’d forgotten what a lovely city Sydney is. When you live here fulltime you tend to take all this stuff for granted.
I’m only here on a flying visit and it’s weird to be a ‘tourist’ in my own city. As you probably gathered, I’m staying in Woolloomooloo, a part of the city I have hitherto spent very little time in. In fact I think I could count the times I have passed through here previously on one hand and they were all many. many years ago when I was a young lad fresh out of school and thought that walking up and down the main street of Kings Cross ogling at the hookers with my mates was a very, very exciting thing to do. I guess some things never change.
So what have I noticed since I got back? Well, the weather’s better than London even though it’s winter here. The shop assistants are friendlier. And the Thai food is even better than I remembered. If I could only get a copy of The Sun delivered each morning I’d be as happy as Larry.
This is where you'll find everything you need to know about me and my books.
