One of the great things about writing a book about riding an old Vespa around Italy is that fellow Vespa aficionados – or Ves-bores, as Sally calls them – send you pics of their pride and joys.
Like ‘Jock’ McGrath from Melbourne. This is his Vespa called Vicki featuring artwork inspired by the covers of Robert G Barrett books. For those of you not aware of Robert G Barrett, he’s an ex-butcher who writes knockabout, larrikin crime stories, usually set around Bondi Beach, full of colourful characters. A bit like Vicki really.
As lovely as Vicki the Vespa is, it was something else in this photo that made this Aussie bloke stuck in London feel a little bit homesick – the dodgy Hills Hoist washing line in the background!
Altogether now: ‘Hey true blue …’

I only dream of being able to send in my Vespa photo one day. In the mean time I continue to be inspired by great blogs/websites and books like yours! Keep up the great work, hope to get my act into gear and devour some of your book soon!
Cool book, Pete, keep on truckin`. Whens the next trip planned? Want some ridin partners????
Great pictures Peter. I liked them so much I decided to create a little website dedicated to people and their Vespa’s. Plenty of inspiration while I save for my Dolce Vita (Vroom with a View) trip next year
Thanks.
